Review: A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor

A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor by Hank Green
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was just so good! It's dystopian and harrowing without being overly pessimistic, in fact it's quite optimistic at many points. The characters are real and flawed and make frustrating choices. It's exactly the book I think the world needs to read right now. It warns of the dangers of concentrated power and how technology can be used for both good and bad. It shows the best and worst of humanity and it leaves off with the reader just saying "wow"...at least it did for this reader! I can't recommend it enough. It's got enough of both sci fi and YA and dystopia and mystery to appeal to a massive audience. The characters are diverse and it is clear that Hank Green has consulted and known people of the diverse communities to make sure that he got the characters right. I loved this so much. My copy has a million tabs in it. The tabs are coded for "poignantly current", "damn that was deep", "lying" (deception of any kind being brought up as a theme), "character defining moment", and "this is going to be an important plot point later". It was a great sequel and wrap up to An Absolutely Remarkable Thing and it was one hell of a journey.
