“Look around you, this is where the path of hatred has brought us” -Pocahontas (movie)

I won’t ever forget how I felt four years ago, I’d do just about anything to ensure that I and everyone else affected never felt that way again. The path of hatred and fear has brought this country here. Over the last 4 years I’ve seen people fight so that they can keep hating anyone that they see as “other”. It has also shown the best of what people can be. People will come out and fight for what’s right. But I’ve done what I could, I voted. Not just for me, but for the people whose voices are in danger of being silenced. For those whose rights have been so violated for so long. For those, who have just recently been given rights only to have the government threaten to take them away. You can say I’m over reacting, and I will tell you that I’m not. I will tell you that I’m scared. I will tell you that the world has seen how this could go before, and it’s nowhere good. There is so much on the line tonite and over the next few days. Now we wait, this is the worst part, knowing that it’s now out of our hands. I hope so badly that America heads in a better direction. I hope more than anything, that we as a nation never have to make a choice like this again. I hope that we progress forward and diversify. That starts at the bottom. Vote for new voices at a local level, get involved. Hold those in power to a high standard so that they never forget that they serve the people, we don’t serve them. The chaos of the last 4 years has shown us that the people are hungry for change and those who like the status quo are scared; they’re scared of diversity. They’re afraid that new voices means an unraveling of their way of life. They say if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Well...our system is broken, at the foundation, and that requires investment at every level, not just a patch job. If we patch it, the foundation remains cracked.
